Although the ultimate prize is already won for South Africa's top two domestic T20 sides - the Champions League Twenty20 - the silverware for winning the final of the Standard Bank Pro20 final in Port Elizabeth on Friday night would seriously cap off the season. The Warriors are out-and-out favourites to win it. They've been by far the best limited overs side in South Africa in the last two years, they've had an awesome season this year in all forms of limited overs cricket and they have home ground advantage and a sold-out crowd. They've also got Rusty Theron, who makes death scoring impossible, so goodnight Highveld Lions - thanks for coming. See you in another five years. Maybe. Jean Symes and Robbie Frylinck had to hit 17 off the final over in the first semi-final against the Titans to give themselves a chance - the fact that they did it kinda overshadowed the fact that it should never have happened. A serious get-out-of-jail card. Obviously anything can happen (and usually does, according to Murray Walker), but it won't. The Warriors have too much firepower. Aside from Theron, who is brokering an IPL contract as we speak, the Warriors have international returnees in the form of Wayne Parnell, Johan Botha, Mark Boucher and Jacques Kallis, to go with Ashwell Prince and Makhaya Ntini. I have no idea who will play and who will get the chop, but aside from all those guys you have players the calibre of Colin Ingram, Justin Kreusch, Nicky Boje and Craig Thyssen to deal with. It's a brilliantly-balanced side, coming at you from all angles. Beat that lot and you deserve a lot more than the Pro20 trophy - you deserve SEX, baby! And I hope you get it. The Lions have Neil McKenzie and Vaughn van Jaarsveld, both of whom are defecting once the final is over, but aside from Zander de Bruyn, Alviro Petersen and Thami Tsolekile they don't have that much experience. Everyone loves a good rags-to-riches tale, but I would prefer the classic old may-the-best-side-win. The Warriors missed out on the final of the SB Pro20 and the CLT20 last year in a Super Over against the Eagles - it's time for them to put that right and take what's rightfully theirs. Fire up them trombones, St. George's Band - the Warriors are bringing home the trophy. Not to mention the bacon. Tags:
