Crazy cricket ahead as IPL3 rides into town Print E-mail

There's cricket, there's T20 cricket, then there's the IPL.

That crazy cricket carny comes to town tonight and as much as I loathe Danny Morrison's DLFfers, and fear speeches by Lalit Modi, and cringe at the amount of blatant product-love that oozes everywhere - I love my IPL and I'll take everything that comes with it.

The best part about it is the fact that there is cricket being played every single day for six weeks, most times twice a day. Call that saturation and overkill if you must - I call it heaven.

I'm one of the lucky ones - I've got my TV set up next to my desk in my home study, where I work from. I get to watch every single game of the IPL. Mad cricket and cheerleaders, dog - and t'wife doesn't mind. She wants me to be happy. She also fancies Chris Gayle.

Whack_e commentators and craz_e brands aside, at the heart of the IPL is a mix of stars and wannabes from most major cricketing nations smacking the hell out of each other all over India in an orgy of frenzied, electric cricket.

What's not to love?

For the next six weeks I shall lose my soul to the IPL - see you on the other side, where together we can seek redemption.

It's a case of romance over practicality. Few selectors on the planet would opt for a virtually unknown South African domestic cricketer who has never donned national colours over one of the fast bowling legends of the game.
