As predicted by this particular genius (he said immodestly and distastefully) the 2010 Champions League Twenty20 will be held in South Africa, Cricket South Africa have announced. As previously reported, the tournament will run from 10-26 September. The competition will take place across three venues, two of which will be the home grounds of the Standard Bank Pro20 finalists this year. The Warriors are almost sure bets for the final (which means one host city will be Port Elizabeth) and the other likely finalist will be either the Cape Cobras (Cape Town) or the Titans (Centurion). The Dolphins are already out of the running so Durban is not an option, which makes the only other possible venue Bloemfontein, depending on how the Eagles go. I can't see it going to Johannesburg. We all know what happened the last time Lalit Modi got involved with the Wanderers... The crowds that turned up for IPL 2 in South Africa were huge, way exceeding expectations. That proves there is plenty of interest in such tournaments in South Africa and I have no doubt the CLT20 will thrive here. I love it. Ola O. |
